On 14th of February 2014, SIBM Pune celebrated Valentine's Day in a unique way. A book by the name ' Jab We Met @ SIBM Pune' was launched. |
A unique aspect of this book was that it featured the stories of 23 Alumni of SIBM Pune who found their better halves on the SIBM campus.
When one thinks of B School initiatives, academics, competitions, placements and corporate lectures are what come to our minds. But SIBM Pune, a 36 years old institute, has not only been focussing on these, but beyond. Quoting Dr. Vivek Sane, Director SIBM Pune, “SIBM Pune is more than a B-School; it is an experience, a way of life.” And SIBM has proved it time and again.
14th February, 2014, the day when the world was celebrating Valentine’s Day, SIBM had it dedicated to its illustrious alumni and their better halves, both hailing from SIBM Pune. For the first time in the country, a B School has come out with a unique and interesting concept of publishing the love stories of the couples from its institute, titled ‘Jab We Met @ SIBM Pune’-a coffee table book. As fascinating as the name sounds, the story behind the book is all the more interesting. It so happened that Dr. Vivek Sane during his interaction with one of the alumni, came to know about the practice of SIBM‘s earlier Director of making a note of the couples behind his office door. This creativity struck Dr. Vivek Sane and hence the book was conceptualised as it would be a fabulous way of informally connecting and bonding with the alumni. Hence the search for couples began by the Alumni Team and around 100 stories were discovered.
‘Jab We Met @ SIBM Pune’ is a tribute to these cherished relationships and an endeavour to connect with the people behind their names, covering 23 esteemed alumni couples from all over India, as old as from the evergreen 80’s batch to that of the lively 21st century. The initiative was successfully spearheaded by Project Managers, Shilpa Minj and Yash Sanghvi, MBA II students along with the faculties Prof. Sapan Shrimal, Dr. Madhura Bedarkar and Prof. Mahima Mishra, and the entire team of ‘Jab We Met’ as they fondly call it.
The book release ceremony on 14th February witnessed Dr. Vidya Yeravdekar, Principal Director, Symbiosis Society and Dr. Rajiv Yeravdekar, Dean Faculty of Health & Biomedical Sciences as its guests of honour. The event began with Dr. Vivek Sane felicitating the chief guests who were more than delighted to share their own love story as both of them had also met each other at B.J. Medical College, Pune. The senior-most couple, Mr Bobby Kuriakose and Mrs Suma Bobby Kuriakose, alumni of 1990 and 1991 respectively, was also invited on stage to launch the book. Reminiscing their 22 years of togetherness, they painted a picture of a fun-filled and simple loving relationship, and paved way for some more enthralling experiences from the other couples.
Post the book release, the 11 couples present were handed over the copies of ‘Jab We Met @ SIBM Pune’. This was followed by an exciting Q&A session for each couple wherein the alumni were taken down the memory lane of their old SIBM Campus on SB Road, Pune. The questions encompassed a gamut of feelings by compelling the alumni to think of their favourite hangouts, how their kids had changed their lives, their courtship days, and their journey together. The entire hall, including the faculties, students and staff thoroughly enjoyed the narratives of the couples. It was indeed a day of fun and frolic and music as well, when everyone hummed the famous number ‘O sanam mohabbat ki kasam’ by Lucky Ali which was sung by an alumnus dedicating to his better half. There were smiles all around making it a truly nostalgic moment for all. The event was followed by lunch and campus tour for the alumni.
Everyone took back with them not just the book, roses and chocolates, but also the fond memories at SIBM Pune, mantras for a happy marriage and lessons on the value of human relations in one’s life. |
